“Harvesting-time,” the time of harvest – and “harvesting time” in the sense of gathering from our experiences in time. In both senses the title of this series speaks to an understanding of the latter part of one’s life as one for bringing into the soul what we wish to carry with us beyond this life. Each family photo has been carefully positioned and lit to accentuate its object-hood and to invite incidental obscuring of the image by reflecting light. Working from direct observation, the size of the drawings and limitations of pencils working against the wood surface contribute to the photos’ images existing in a liminal space. The gold iridescent ground holds the photos and breaks through them while honouring the photo/object as icon/memory and acknowledging its inevitable and necessary dissolution.
